This might’ve been the first time I was allowed to go on a road trip and see a concert without parental supervision. I was 15 and went with two classmates who were older. We felt very cool, driving from Columbus to Oxford and hanging around all the Miami University students.
The opening act was A Flock of Seagulls, who’d just released “I Ran (So Far Away).” They had a pretty fancy light show for a support act.
Driving back to Columbus after the show, the Go-Gos tour bus passed us on the freeway and we could see a couple of them in the windows. We argued about whether or not Belinda Carlisle smiled at me.
